Reception

Typhoon Family has received praise for its careful recreation of 1990s South Korea, connecting with viewers through its realistic showing of the era’s style and social life. The drama’s carefully made sets and props from the 1990s, such as pagers, cassette tapes, and TV captions from that time, have been noted for making viewers feel nostalgic. Director Lee Na-jeong stressed the importance of being accurate in showing history, with the team finding hard-to-find items and talking to people who lived through the 1997 Asian financial crisis to make the show true to the time. After the first episode, Lee Jun-ho’s role as Kang Tae-poong was widely praised for showing deep emotions and small expressions. Critics and viewers admired his ability to balance humor, sadness, and growth, with writer Jang Hyun saying he acted like a "nation’s son, boyfriend, and CEO." His performance was seen as a strong part of the series, showing his talent as a flexible and reliable lead. Pop culture critic Jung Deok-hyun said, "Kang Tae-pung is a character with many different traits and not easy to play. Even in a difficult situation, the actor showed the character’s hopeful and positive attitude without making it too heavy."
