"Stuck with You" is a song by the American rock band Huey Lewis and the News. The song was written by guitarist Chris Hayes and lead singer Huey Lewis. It was released in 1986 as the first single from the band's fourth album, Fore! (1986). The song was number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 for three weeks, making it the band's second number one song on that chart. Internationally, the song reached number 12 on the UK Singles Chart, was number one in Canada and Zimbabwe, and reached the top 10 in Australia, Iceland, New Zealand, and South Africa.

Origin

Lewis said the song was about a girl he liked. However, when he told her about the song, she did not like it. Co-writer Chris Hayes explained that the song's structure was inspired by the 1982 Donald Fagen song "I.G.Y. (What a Beautiful World)."

Reception

According to Cash Box, the song is described as a "romantic pop song." Billboard noted that the song features "unusual love lyrics set to a harmonizing style similar to that heard on street corners."

Music video

The music video for "Stuck with You" was filmed in the Bahamas in July 1986 and includes Keely Shaye Smith. The island where Lewis and Smith arrive is a small island located about ten miles from Paradise Island in Nassau. The video was shot on land, water, underwater, and from the air. The band, crew, and extras in the island barbecue scene stayed on a barge that was anchored near the island to avoid being seen. The costumes were created by Bambi Breakstone, who also designed costumes for the second season of Miami Vice (1985/1986). The video was directed by Edd Griles, who had previously directed the band's videos for "The Heart of Rock & Roll" and "If This Is It," as well as Cyndi Lauper's "Girls Just Want to Have Fun" and "Time After Time."
