Kungs performed the song on stage with vocalist Mel Sugar during an appearance on the French television show Le Petit Journal on 24 March 2016. An EP containing an extended version of the song, two remixes, and a solo track by Kungs called "Milos" was released on iTunes on 26 March 2016. Billboard placed "This Girl" at number 48 on their "100 Best Pop Songs of 2016" list.

The music video for the remix was filmed on the Greek island of Milos. It was released on Kungs' Vevo channel on YouTube on 24 March 2016. The video was directed by Matt Larson for La Main Productions. The models in the video are Louis Rault and Irina Martynenko. The video begins with a boy and girl meeting on a cruise ship. They later become a couple and begin dancing in their bedroom. The ship reaches the shore, and the boy and girl explore the land, passing lakes and hills. They later discover a cave and begin dancing in the cave over a bonfire. As of 8 September 2025, the video had reached over 550 million views on YouTube.

In 2010, the original version of the song was played in the fourteenth episode of the tenth season of Degrassi.

The Kungs version of the song appeared in Apple advertisements and the Shot on iPhone challenge, which inspired a meme.

In 2016, a British online department store called Littlewoods included the song in a TV advertising campaign. The song was used in a 2017 commercial for Cricket Wireless, which partnered with Samsung, and later became the theme music for the U.S. version of Big Star's Little Star. The song has also been used by football fans, who created chants based on its rhythm. These chants have been performed by players such as Georginio Wijnaldum of Liverpool, Alexandre Lacazette of Arsenal, Fernandinho of former Manchester City F.C., Morgan Whittaker of Plymouth Argyle, Andy Yiadom of Reading, Coll Donaldson of Inverness Caledonian Thistle, Cameron Brannagan of Oxford United, and Adam Marriott of King's Lynn Town.
