Jennifer Lynn Armentrout (born June 11, 1980), also known as J. Lynn, is an American author who writes books in the genres of contemporary romance, new adult, and fantasy. Some of her books have appeared on The New York Times Best Seller list.

She is called a "hybrid" author because she has published books on her own while also working with small independent publishers and traditional publishing companies. Her current publishers include Spencer Hill Press, Entangled Publishing, Harlequin Teen, Disney/Hyperion, and HarperCollins.

Do not confuse her with another writer named Jenny Gallifrey Joel Trout, who was born Jennifer Lynne Armintrout in 1980.

Early life

Jennifer Lynn Armentrout was born in West Virginia. She became interested in writing after reading books by L.J. Smith, such as The Vampire Diaries, The Secret Circle Series, The Forbidden Games Series, and many others. The Forbidden Games series was especially meaningful to her, and the final book in the series made her cry. After finishing the series, she wanted to create stories that would have the same effect on her readers.

Her first attempt at writing a novel happened in high school during an algebra class. Even though she wanted to be a writer, she attended college and earned a degree in psychology.

Career

Before her career began, Armentrout faced many rejections. Her first book was published in 2011. By September 2019, she had published 53 of her 57 total written works. Most of her books for young adults are romance, fantasy, paranormal, and some contemporary and science fiction. Under the name J. Lynn, she writes suspenseful romance novels for adult readers.

In 2013, her young adult novel Obsidian was bought by Sierra Pictures, but the rights were returned to her later.

In 2015, a colleague suggested Armentrout host a book signing for the first book in her Titan series. She was uncomfortable with the idea of a lonely event, so she invited other authors to join her. This event led to the creation of ApollyCon, a convention where authors and readers celebrate new books. The event has grown in popularity with each year.

Armentrout is a #1 New York Times and USA Today Best Seller. She has published books independently and with companies, which makes her a "hybrid" author.

Personal life

In 2015, Armentrout was diagnosed with retinitis pigmentosa. She is interested in teaching others about this condition by sharing information and raising awareness. She also provides support to people who have the same disorder.

As of 2020, Armentrout lives with her husband, her dog named Apollo, and her alpacas on a farm in Martinsburg, West Virginia.

She writes stories for readers of all ages to avoid feeling tired from writing. Armentrout writes for about eight hours each day, most days of the week. During the writing process, she switches between typing and writing by hand to avoid writer's block.
