Get a Life, Chloe Brown is a 2019 romance novel written by Talia Hibbert and published by Avon Romance. It is Hibbert's first traditionally published book from and is the first book of a trilogy following the Brown sisters. Two more books in the trilogy were published later: Take A Hint, Dani Brown in 2020 and Act Your Age, Eve Brown in 2021. The audiobook version of Get a Life, Chloe Brown was narrated by Adjoa Andoh and published by HarperAudio.
Background
Hibbert has called Get a Life, Chloe Brown an #OwnVoices work because the main character experiences chronic pain, similar to Hibbert’s own life. For many years, Hibbert faced health problems that were not diagnosed until she was diagnosed with fibromyalgia. Her challenges with doctors inspired the theme of medical discrimination in her novel.
The book shows how chronic pain can create stress in family and romantic relationships. It also highlights that people with chronic pain can have loving relationships and are capable of living fulfilling lives. The story explains ways to regain a sense of control in a life that has been affected by illness.
Reception
The book Get a Life, Chloe Brown appeared on the Today show and made it onto the bestseller lists of both USA Today and The Wall Street Journal. It was listed at number 77 on the USA Today Bestseller list.
The book received reviews in The Washington Post and was mentioned twice on NPR. Well written, great banter, sexy vibes." Jaime Green’s review for The New York Times praised Hibbert as a "brilliant writer."
The novel was honored with the Ripped Bodice Awards for Excellence in Romance Fiction in 2019.
