Victoria Aveyard was born on July 27, 1990. She is an American author who writes books for teenagers and fantasy stories, as well as screenplays. She is best known for her fantasy novel Red Queen. She wrote the book one year after finishing her studies in screenwriting at the University of Southern California in 2012. Sony Pictures partnered with her to write a screenplay called Eternal.
Early life
Aveyard was born on July 27, 1990, and grew up in a small town in Western Massachusetts. Her parents work as public school teachers. At eighteen, she moved to California after being accepted into the University of Southern California, where she studied screenwriting. She has Scottish and Italian heritage and currently lives in Santa Monica with her husband and dog. Her family name comes from Dewsbury in Yorkshire.
Career
After graduating from college, Aveyard completed her first novel, Red Queen. She was motivated to write the book because she had a lot of student loan debt and felt unsure about how to manage it. Instead of using traditional methods to find a publisher, Aveyard signed with Suzie Townsend after learning about Townsend’s work during her time in USC’s writing program. Red Queen was published in 2015 and received positive reviews for its story, character diversity, and unexpected plot developments. The book won the Goodreads Choice Award for Best Debut Author. Four additional books followed: three sequels and one prequel. Initially, Red Queen was planned as a film series by Universal Pictures with Elizabeth Banks as director. In 2021, it was announced that the project would become a television series on Peacock, with Banks directing and appearing in a recurring role. Before filming began, Aveyard shared on Instagram that the series was renewed for a second season. Aveyard also wrote the first episode of the television series.
In 2021, Aveyard released another book titled Realm Breaker, which became the top-selling young adult hardcover book on The New York Times Best Sellers list.
