Synopsis

The main character of the popular book Outlander, Claire, returns in Drums of Autumn. She is reunited with her husband, Jamie Fraser, and begins a new life in the American colonies. The previous book, Voyager, ended with Jamie and Claire being wrecked on the shore of Georgia in 1766, where they were glad to leave Scotland behind. Drums of Autumn continues the story from where Voyager left off.

Plot

Jamie, Claire, Fergus, Marsali, and Ian first travel to Charleston, then to Wilmington, before settling in the North Carolina foothills to build a home. Fergus's wife, Marsali, remains on the island of Jamaica, waiting for the birth of their first child. Meanwhile, Brianna Ellen Randall and her partner, historian Roger Wakefield, live safely in the 20th century. After her mother leaves to return to the past, Brianna faces the challenge of coping with her loss and learning about her father, whom she has never met. She uncovers a sad event from the past that risks her parents' happiness. This discovery causes Brianna to travel back in time to save her parents, prompting Roger to follow her.
