Plot summary

Claire, the main character in Outlander, appears in The Fiery Cross as an unwilling prophet and the wife of Jamie Fraser, her 18th-century husband. She deals with the political challenges and growing unrest before the American Revolution. The story continues from where Drums of Autumn left off, with Jamie and Claire helping their daughter, Brianna Ellen Randall Fraser, and her new husband, Roger Mackenzie, from the 20th century, adjust to life on Fraser's Ridge. The Fiery Cross begins with Brianna and Roger preparing to officially marry and baptize their son, Jeremiah. As the American Revolution approaches and tensions rise, Jamie is asked to form a militia to stop early signs of rebellion in North Carolina, even though he knows he will soon have to betray the king. The book concludes several storylines introduced in Drums of Autumn, revealing secrets about mysterious characters and plots. By the end, the Fraser family is ready to face the coming war.
