"Another Op'nin', Another Show" is the first song in Cole Porter's 1948 musical Kiss Me, Kate. Patricia Morison introduced the song.
The song is performed by a group of actors playing characters from Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew. It is seen as an important song in show business, similar to "That's Entertainment!" from The Band Wagon and "There's No Business Like Show Business" from Annie Get Your Gun. However, the song was not included in the 1953 film version of the musical, except as a background music piece for a dance from the song "Why Can't You Behave."
In the London production of Kiss Me, Kate, which opened on March 8, 1951, at the Coliseum Theatre, Adelaide Hall sang "Another Op'nin', Another Show." The production ran for 400 performances.
Marin Mazzie and Hannah Waddingham have also performed the song in the show.
Other appearances
The song was the first song of episode 514 of The Muppet Show. Sharon, Lois & Bram sang the song on their TV show Sharon, Lois & Bram's Elephant Show in 1987 during the episode titled "Snow White Elephant," which featured Jayne Eastwood. This episode celebrated the 50th anniversary of Snow White.
