Sandra Lynn Brown, originally named Cox (born March 12, 1948), is an American writer known for writing popular romance and thriller suspense books. She has also written books using the names Rachel Ryan, Laura Jordan, and Erin St. Claire.

Early life and education

Sandra Brown was born in Waco, Texas, and grew up in Fort Worth. She studied English at Texas Christian University (TCU) in Fort Worth but left college in 1968 to get married.

Career

After her marriage, Brown worked as a weather reporter for KLTV in Tyler. Later, she moved back to the Dallas-Fort Worth area, where she became a reporter for WFAA-TV's version of PM Magazine.

In 1981, she began writing after her husband encouraged her to try. Since then, she has written nearly 70 novels and had more than 50 books listed on the New York Times bestseller list. In 2008, she received an honorary doctorate of humane letters from TCU, the school where she studied.

Her novel French Silk was adapted into a television movie released in 1994. The movie featured actors Susan Lucci, Shari Belafonte, and Lee Horsley. In 2016, her novel White Hot was turned into a Hallmark movie titled Sandra Brown's White Hot.

In 2007, she appeared on Court TV's series Murder By The Book, which explored the 1980 murder of Betty Gore in Wylie, Texas.

On September 30, 2023, Brown shared on social media that she had finalized her divorce from her husband, Michael Brown, whom she married 55 years earlier.
