It became a minor hit when it was released. Later, Mila Mason recorded her own version of the song and released it as a single in 2003 from her album Stained Glass Window. However, her version did not chart.

Critical reception

Ray Waddell of Billboard magazine reviewed the album and gave it a mixed response. He described the album as "loud and complex," but also noted that the songs are "hard to tell apart" and include "faint songs about girly themes."

A music video for the song "Maybe, Maybe Not" was made in 2001. It began showing on Great American Country in February 2002. The video is set entirely in a laundromat, where McCready is seen sitting on top of washing machines and covered in bubbles.

It reached its highest position of number 49 in the fourth week. The song stayed on the chart for 9 weeks. As of 2024, it is still the last single by McCready to appear on country music charts.

On the Radio & Records country chart, the song debuted at number 50 on February 1, 2002. The next week, it climbed to number 49 and also debuted at number 48 on the Country Indicator chart. It reached its highest position of number 45 on February 15, 2002, during its third week. The song's last week on the chart was February 22, 2002, at number 49.
