Additions

Some companies, including Microsoft, Samsung, and HTC, add emoji designs to certain Unicode characters or create their own ZWJ sequences.

Microsoft displays all Mahjong tiles (U+1F000–U+1F02B, not just U+1F004 🀄 MAHJONG TILE RED DRAGON) and alternative card suits (U+2661 ♡ WHITE HEART SUIT, U+2662 ♢ WHITE DIAMOND SUIT, U+2664 ♤ WHITE SPADE SUIT, U+2667 ♧ WHITE CLUB SUIT) as emoji. They also include additional pencils (U+270E ✎ LOWER RIGHT PENCIL, U+2710 ✐ UPPER RIGHT PENCIL) and a heart-shaped bullet (U+2765 ❥ ROTATED HEAVY BLACK HEART BULLET).

Only U+261D ☝ WHITE UP POINTING INDEX is officially an emoji. However, Microsoft and Samsung also display the other three directions (U+261C ☜ WHITE LEFT POINTING INDEX, U+261E ☞ WHITE RIGHT POINTING INDEX, U+261F ☟ WHITE DOWN POINTING INDEX). Microsoft no longer supports these emojis.

Both companies pair the standard checked ballot box emoji (U+2611 ☑ BALLOT BOX WITH CHECK) with its crossed variant (U+2612 ☒ BALLOT BOX WITH X). Only Samsung also includes the empty ballot box (U+2610 ☐ BALLOT BOX).

Samsung covers most of the Miscellaneous Symbols block (U+2600–U+26FF) as emoji. This block includes chess pieces, game dice, traffic signs, and symbols related to genealogy and astronomy.

HTC supports most additional pictographs from the Miscellaneous Symbols and Pictographs (U+1F300–U+1F5FF) and Transport and Map Symbols (U+1F680–U+1F6FF) blocks. Some of these pictographs are also shown as emoji on Samsung devices.

Open source projects Emojidex and Emojitwo are working to include all these extensions created by major companies.
