After Ever Happy (released in some countries under different names: After Ever After and After Forever) is a 2022 American romantic drama film directed by Castille Landon. The screenplay was written by Sharon Soboil, and the film is based on the 2015 novel of the same name by Anna Todd. It is the sequel to After We Fell (2021) and the fourth part of the After film series.

After Ever Happy was first shown in Italy on August 22, 2022, in Europe on August 24, 2022, and in the United States on September 7, 2022, by Voltage Pictures. Like the earlier films in the series, it received negative reviews.

Production

In September 2020, a movie version of After Ever Happy was announced to be in development. This film was created at the same time as After We Fell. Both movies were directed by Castille Landon, and Sharon Soboil wrote the screenplay. Josephine Langford and Hero Fiennes-Tiffin were confirmed to play the same characters, Tessa Young and Hardin Scott, again.

The movie entered preparation in September 2020, before After We Collided was released. Main filming happened at the same time as After We Fell. In December 2021, Louise Lombard, Kiana Madeira, Chance Perdomo, Rob Estes, and Carter Jenkins were confirmed to return as characters from earlier films. The first preview of the movie was shared in December 2021.

Filming took place in Bulgaria and ended in December 2020. Landon said the story’s realistic look at love inspired her to join the project. She wanted to show that "romance isn't always beautiful." During filming, the cast worked closely together and stayed in a hotel in a more isolated way while not filming, because of rules and safety steps from the pandemic.

Release

The film was released in Europe on August 22, 2022. It was later released in the United States on September 7, 2022, by Voltage Pictures and another distribution companies.

Reception

According to the review collection website Rotten Tomatoes, none of the 7 critics' reviews were positive, and the average score was 2.6 out of 10.

Sequel

In August 2022, it was announced that work on a sequel to the book After Ever Happy had started. The sequel is called After Everything. Langford and Fiennes Tiffin played the same roles as Tessa Young and Hardin Scott again.
