"Love Is a Beautiful Thing" is a song written by Seth Swirsky. It was first recorded by Charles & Eddie for their 1991 album, Duophonic. Later, American singer-songwriter, pastor, and record producer Al Green recorded the song for his 1993 album Don't Look Back. The song was released as a single in 1993 and later appeared on his 1995 album Your Heart's in Good Hands and his 2002 greatest hits collection L-O-V-E: The Essential Al Green.
Al Green's version of the song was used in several movies, including The Pallbearer (1996), Sorority Boys (2002), Two Weeks Notice (2002), and The Cookout (2004). Krystal Harris performed the song for the movie Legally Blonde in 2001. It was also used as the theme song for Revlon's international ad campaign in 2004.
During the song, Al Green includes personal messages. At the start, he says, "This is what I believe." Near the end, at 4 minutes and 43 seconds, he sings the titles of six of his most popular songs: "Let's Stay Together" (twice), "I'm Still in Love with You," "Call Me," "For the Good Times," "Tired of Being Alone," and "Here I Am."
Tina Turner also recorded the song, and her version was included on the 1997 compilation album Diana, Princess of Wales: Tribute. The song was chosen as the wedding song for Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston.
