Synopsis
In the popular book Outlander, the main character Claire returns in Drums of Autumn, where she reunites with her husband, Jamie Fraser, and begins a new life in the American colonies. The previous book, Voyager, ended with Jamie Fraser and Claire being shipwrecked on the Georgia coastline in 1766 and happy to leave Scotland. Drums of Autumn continues the story where Voyager left off.
Plot
Jamie, Claire, Fergus, Marsali, and Ian travel first to Charleston, then to Wilmington, before moving to the North Carolina foothills to build a home. Fergus’s wife, Marsali, remains in Jamaica, where she is waiting for the birth of their first child. Meanwhile, Brianna Ellen Randall and her partner, historian Roger Wakefield, live safely in the 20th century. After her mother leaves to return to the past, Brianna faces difficulty adjusting to her loss and trying to learn about her father, who she has never met. She uncovers a sad event from the past that endangers her parents’ happiness. This discovery causes Brianna to travel back in time to help her parents, prompting Roger to follow her.
